  • Ernest "Khabeer" Dawkins -- saxophone, clarinet, flute, small instruments
    • A critically acclaimed reed player who has recorded and/or peformed with Ramsey Lewis, Muhal Richard Abrams, Richie Cole, Jack McDuff, Joseph Jarman, Lester Bowie, Malachi Favors, Don Moye, Anthony Braxton, Adegoke Steve Colson, Kahil El-Zabar, Edward Wilkerson, James Newton, Henry Threadgill, Steve McCall, Fred Hopkins, Amina Claudine Myers, Douglas Ewart, Roscoe Mitchell, Charles Earland, Gene Chandler, The Dells, Jerry Butler, and many others.
     
  • Ameen Muhammad -- trumpet, percussion, small instruments
    • A highly regarded trumpet player on the "new music" scene, has also been deeply involved in the development of numerous arts-in-education programs and artistic residencies including HIP TRIP for Chicago Public Schools; Urban Gateways' Arts For LEarning Residency at fifteen Chicago public schools; toured with the "Griot Band" at elementary schools; artistic residency for Chicago Housing Authority's Lighted Schoolhouse Program.  Recorded and/or performed with Anthony Braxton, Edward Wilkerson, Malachi Favors, Douglas Ewart, Steve McCall, Don Moye, and many others.  An active member of the AACM.
     
  • Avreeayl Ra -- drums
    • A long-term member of the AACM and renowned master drummer who is always in demand by visiting jazz artists; has performed and/or recorded with Sun Ra, Mwata Bowden's Sound Spectrum, Professor Long Hair, Henry Butler, Fontella Bass, Malachi Favors, Joseph Jarman, Billy Harper, Lester Bowie, the AACM Big Band, and many others.
     
  • Jeffrey Parker -- guitar
    • An alumnus of the Berklee College of Music, this young guitarist has made a dramatic impact on the jazz scene having worked with such outstanding artists such as Roy Hargrove, Wynton Marsalis, Antonio Hart, Joshua Redman, Billy Pierce, and Branford Marsalis.  Parker joined New Horizons Ensemble in 1992.
     
  • Stephen Berry -- trombone
    • An AACM member who has recorded with the Spinners, Jerry Butler, Ramsey Lewis, Lil' Milton, the Chi-Lites, Shadow Vignettes, Malachi Thompson's Freebop Band and Africa Brass; has performed with the Lyric Opera of Chicago Orchestra, the Grant Park Symphony, Lou Rawls, Natalie Cole, Edward Wilkerson, slide Hampton, Lionel Hampton, James Brown, Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra, and many others.  Besides New Horizons Ensemble, Berry is a member of Marshall Vente's Project Nine, Shadow Vignettes, and the AACM Big Band.
     
  • Yosef Ben-Israel -- bass
    • A critically acclaimed bass player who is a member of Mwata Bowden's Sound Spectrum, Ameen Muhammad Trio, AACM Big Band as well as New Horizons Ensemble; he has performed and recorded with numerous jazz artists including Edward Wilkerson, Malachi Thompson, Lester Bowie, Roscoe Mitchell, Douglas Ewart, Amina Claudine Myers, Joseph Jarman, and Steve Colson.
